Why do you read/ Characters

Why Reading?

What makes you enjoy reading? Is it the relaxation that it brings to you or the excitement from the book? How does reading affect you? To me, when I read, it calms me down. I am able to digest each word as it disappears into my mind. The words sometimes make no sense at all and are quite boring, while other times the story is at its climax and is easy to understand. There are so many books to choose from. Sometimes I don’t know which one is the right choice. There are Millions and Billions of books, all of them waiting to be found, all of them dying to be read. I love reading and I just wondered why you did to.

Characters:

When I read, I am able to establish friendships with characters. Have you ever felt that way before? As I read, the relationship between the main character and myself has grown. Even though the person doesn’t know me, I know them. It’s a one-way street, but to me, it feels as though we know each other and we have known one another for our whole entire lives. I picture the character in my mind, sometimes even representing other people that I know. Depending on their characteristics, I might classify them with someone in my own group of friends. Characters are always able to be distinguished better as you read along. The more you know, the stronger your relationship will be, with your imaginary friend.

  1. Although I also like characters who are like friends, there are other times that I LOVE the "bad" characters, even if it's that I love to hate them. I also like when authors keep you guessing a little, and you're not sure until later in the book who is "good" and who is "bad." It makes you realize that in real life there are few people who are ALL good or ALL bad, but that most people have a mix of good and bad behaviors. Another fun way I enjoy characters is by finding books where the main character is NOTHING like me. I love looking through the eyes of a main character who is a martial arts expert and she goes around flipping thieves; or someone who uses a cross-bow with silver-tipped arrows to go after werewolves (not Jacob, of course). It's fun to live vicariously!

  2. I completely agree with you. It does seem fun to pretend to be a person who is a secret agent or maybe even the president with some authority. Who knows.
