ttyl

Recently I just started reading ttyl by Lauren Myracle.  It is about three tenth grade girls, Angela, Maddie and Zoe.  They are all trying to survive high school together.  They are a trio of girls that hope to never break apart.

One thing about this book that I don't especially like is the way it is written.  It is all dialogue and they are 'chatting' online throughout the whole book.  The reason why I don't like it is because it is hard to imagine where they go to school and what the characters look like, basically details. The good thing about the way Lauren wrote the book was how each character has their own special font or color.  One girl has blue font, the other is bold and one is normal.  The different fonts do help we know who is speaking.

I love reading about a group of girls because I like chick flicks.  To em, the story also seems extremely realistic.  I find it annoying when you read a story and it doesn't seem realistic.  It makes it seem like it is fake.  When a book has a scenario that might happen in real life it is easier to believe what is going on and you learn from experience what you should do if you ever had that problem.

I really love the author Lauren Myracle.  I have read Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen and hopefully Thirteen Plus One soon.  She has written very many books and I would like to read more of them.  Recently she came to my school and even signed one of my books.  Lauren is a really awesome person and is full of enthusiasm.  She seems like a really nice person and I can't wait to read more of her books.

What's your favorite book? Why?

My Sister's Keeper

I have always wanted to read the book My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.  Unfortunatley, I have always been in the middle of another book when I would remember it.  Now that the movie has come out I really want to read it.  Also, after I read the book, I will hopefully want to see the movie.  I have heard lots of good things about the book and hopefully it will be as good as people have led it to be.

In case you haven't seen the movie, My Sister's Keeper, below is a trailer.

How did you learn to read?

Everyone learns at some point in their life. To some it is easy, to others it takes a long time. I remember that I didn't want to learn how to read, but to be honest, I am glad that someone taught me to how. I do remember one book that my mom made me read. It was called A Fly Went By. I could only read one or two pages a night. Back then, I was a slow reader. I was frustrated and annoyed and I hated it. I didn't want to be reading then, I wanted to be watching TV or doing something other than reading. Now that I reflect back, that is a great book to start reading with. When I was younger I found reading boring and I thought what's the point, there's just a bunch of words on a page, big deal. But I came to love those words on the page, I never did like writing them, but I sure do love to read them. Now, reading is one of my favorite hobbies. I enjoy reading and I think that everyone else should read to. It introduces you to new words and it helps your mind relax. Hopefully, you will one day learn to love reading as much as I do.

Alice in the Know

So far I have completed most of the book, Alice in the Know by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. Phyllis has written several other books that I have also enjoyed including Shiloh, which is about a relationship between a boy and his dog and many other Alice books that are in this series. About now, Alice is 16 and is learning how to drive. A lot is going on during her so called ‘bummer summer.’ During the summer, Alice’s Dad usually lets her work in the store, but this summer is different. Her Dad tells her that she must find a new job in the real world. She tries to apply for many jobs, but there isn’t an opening anywhere. Finally she arrives at Hecht’s and she gets a job while she is filling out the application. It isn’t the greatest job in the world, but she was happy. Also throughout the book, Alice finds out that one of her best friends has leukemia. She is very worried, but still tries to have fun. Pamela another friend of Alice’s is going to the beach and she gets to join them as well. They frolic and play and hang out with boys and finally indulge in some shopping, but soon it is time to go home. The next day when Alice arrives at work her partner tells her she was fired because she never told anyone that she was leaving. Alice is crushed and goes home to tell her family her disappointment. So far, that’s where I am in the book so far.

Do you think that her partner should have told her that she needed to go check with her boss before she left? Is it really Alice’s fault?

Juanita, Alice’s partner in the store says she thought that Alice already knew and she decided she wouldn’t say anything. Do you think she made the right decision? I think that Juanita should’ve told her anyway just in case Alice didn’t know. I think that it wasn’t really Alice’s fault and that she should get her job back, but rules and rules and life is life so I guess she will just have to move on like everyone else.

Why do you read/ Characters

Why Reading?

What makes you enjoy reading? Is it the relaxation that it brings to you or the excitement from the book? How does reading affect you? To me, when I read, it calms me down. I am able to digest each word as it disappears into my mind. The words sometimes make no sense at all and are quite boring, while other times the story is at its climax and is easy to understand. There are so many books to choose from. Sometimes I don’t know which one is the right choice. There are Millions and Billions of books, all of them waiting to be found, all of them dying to be read. I love reading and I just wondered why you did to.

Characters:

When I read, I am able to establish friendships with characters. Have you ever felt that way before? As I read, the relationship between the main character and myself has grown. Even though the person doesn’t know me, I know them. It’s a one-way street, but to me, it feels as though we know each other and we have known one another for our whole entire lives. I picture the character in my mind, sometimes even representing other people that I know. Depending on their characteristics, I might classify them with someone in my own group of friends. Characters are always able to be distinguished better as you read along. The more you know, the stronger your relationship will be, with your imaginary friend.
