I could only read one or two pages a night. Back then, I was a slow reader. I was frustrated and annoyed and I hated it. I didn't want to be reading then, I wanted to be watching TV or doing something other than reading. Now that I reflect back, that is a great book to start reading with. When I was younger I found reading boring and I thought what's the point, there's just a bunch of words on a page, big deal. But I came to love those words on the page, I never did like writing them, but I sure do love to read them. Now, reading is one of my favorite hobbies. I enjoy reading and I think that everyone else should read to. It introduces you to new words and it helps your mind relax. Hopefully, you will one day learn to love reading as much as I do.

How did you learn to read?
Everyone learns at some point in their life. To some it is easy, to others it takes a long time. I remember that I didn't want to learn how to read, but to be honest, I am glad that someone taught me to how. I do remember one book that my mom made me read. It was called A Fly Went By.

I have no idea how I learned to read -- I was one of those kids who just learned. The story is that I already could read by the time I started first grade (this was back in the days when kindergarten was for playing and naps and abcs, and reading was for first grade).
ReplyDeleteI learned to read when I was in the first grade. I was in a reading group and we sat in a circle and read Alice and Jerry books. They had a dog named Jip and a friend named May. They lived exciting lives running and jumping.
ReplyDeletePiLibrarian, lucky you. I still don't know why it is so hard for some people and easy for others. I am very glad though that I learned how to read because it is one of my favorite hobbies.
ReplyDeleteMarclad, I have heard of people having reading groups, but I was never in one. I went to a Montessori school my whole life and we were more hands on with individual lessons about reading. I do remember in 1st through 3rd grade we would have a reading period right after lunch. I never liked it because I would read the same book over and over. Now I usually don't read books a second time. I wonder why that is?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea how I learned to read. I think I read the book that was something like My First Book, and the I read Dr. Seuss books and other books like that.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was really little I used to look at Dr. Suess books, then I would memorize them and no one would have to read them to me.
ReplyDeleteLike Aspire said, I don't know when or how I learned to read, it just seemed to happen. I loved Doctor Seuss books when I was little.
